Get on with your life
Most people want to continue to stay in work even
with an injury and the evidence shows that those who
do recover quicker.
Some
believe their job is responsible for their condition
and in some cases this is true. However in most
cases it is a combination of many factors, including
your work, that produce symptoms.
Osteopaths are highly skilled
practitioners who specialise in the diagnosis and
treatment of musculoskeletal problems such as back
pain, neck pain and Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).
Poor posture can contribute to daily aches and pains
whether you lift heavy loads, sit at the PC
incorrectly or drive for long periods. An osteopath
can advise on correct posture and movement and can
give instruction on back care and preventative
exercises.
Problems affected by
manual handling and lifting:
Muscle and tendon injuries.
Disc injuries (‘slipped disc’).
Sciatica.
Problems affected by
repetitive or forceful movements:
Carpal tunnel syndrome.
Tenosynovitis.
Peritendinitis.
Epicondylitis (e.g. ‘tennis elbow).
Mouse wrist.
Problems affected by
unsuitable posture or repetitive movements:
Low back pain.
Neck and shoulder pain.
Computer hump.
Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
Ask yourself what you can do
to help your condition, identify what you do in your
work day and see if you can make small changes that
may help quite a lot;
Do you have to bend and twist frequently?
Do you have any work breaks?
Is your work repetitive?
Do you sit down at work and for how long?
Do you spend a great deal of your day on the
telephone?
Are you expected to work to deadlines?
Do you have to work in an awkward posture?
Of the tasks you perform, which cause you the most
discomfort?
What is your working relationship with peers and
employers?
