Arthritis
Arthritis can be divided into two
broad categories - Degenerative and Inflammatory.
Degenerative arthritis is often called wear and tear
or Osteoarthritis it is the commonest form and can
affect up to 60% of the population, it is usually
due to overuse or trauma and can have a genetic
component. Its main features are pain, stiffness and
reduced mobility.
Many people mistakenly assume that they have to
learn to live with the symptoms of this condition
and it is true that nothing can be done to affect
the degeneration that has already occurred. However,
in many cases appropriate treatment can affect the
symptoms of stiffness and pain thus allowing you to
get on with your life.
Inflammatory arthritis such as Rheumatoid Arthritis
is a systemic condition that affects the whole body
including the joints. Osteopathic treatment may be
of some help alongside medication in alleviating
some of the symptoms. |
