Pregnancy produces the largest postural change a
woman’s body will undergo, as the baby grows the extra
weight draws the centre of gravity forward and the
posture changes from week to week, additionally the
breasts enlarge putting strain on the upper back. This
can cause a variety of aches and pains involving the
entire back, pelvis, neck and pubic symphysis.
Osteopathic treatment through pregnancy is very
gentle, it is safe for both mother and baby, many women
think that it has helped them have an easier birth thus
reducing any strain on the baby at this time.
Osteopathic treatment may also improve your chances
of a normal birth.
If the mother’s spine and pelvis are properly aligned
she will have an easier pregnancy. But this also brings
the added bonus of the baby having a better pregnancy. A
baby moves around as he grows, as any mother can feel.
The more the baby is free to move around, the more
likely he is to position himself correctly at the end of
pregnancy, so baby is more likely to engage in the right
position before labour. If the baby starts of in the
right place labour progresses more smoothly.

Optimal foetal positioning tries to give the baby the
maximum amount of space to move into the best position.
We don’t touch the baby, if the baby can move freely, he
will find the right place.
It is advisable that you return after the birth for a
check up and if necessary treatment.
