Arm & Elbow Pain
There can be many reasons for having pain in the arm
or elbow.
When you come for a consultation our initial aim is
to find out what is causing the pain and make an
accurate diagnosis.
Arm pain, may for instance, be referred from the neck
or upper back, by a trapped nerve or other structure
or it may be a problem local to the area.
Tennis elbow
is a common condition we see in practice. It usually
presents as pain on the outside of the elbow and
whilst it can be associated with a sporting injury,
such as playing tennis, it can come on for lots of
reasons where there is overuse. The tendon can be
pulled away from the bone causing inflammation.
We will give you advice on how to manage the pain,
and information on work or leisure activities that
may be affecting it. We will advise you on strapping
or appliance use that can help the condition, as well
as offering treatment options, which may include soft
tissue massage, articulation and manipulation, as
well as needling / acupuncture and exercise.
We will always discuss treatment options with you
prior to commencing so you have the option to choose,
based on the information given to you.
Pain in the hand
can also be referred from the neck, if it is affecting a
nerve, this is usually localised to certain areas of
the hand and can also cause pins & needles and
numbness. Other conditions include tendonitis,
repetitive strain syndromes, tenosinovitis, trigger
finger and carpal tunnel syndrome, amongst other
things.
It is generally best to call the clinic for a chat
to discuss your condition so that we can better
advise you on treatment options.
