Babies and Children
Childbirth is hard work for
both mother & baby. Even a normal birth can leave
stresses & strains, if the ‘pushing’ stage takes a
long time or with assisted deliveries that involve
the use of ventouse or forceps, more stress and
strain may be produced.
This may contribute to mechanical problems that may
make a baby, as with adults, irritable babies have a
limited number of ways to express this and thus may
cry more, sleep less or not settle well.
Some babies may move around a lot and may actively
avoid certain positions because they are
uncomfortable for them. Advice on coping, exercise
or treatment may help relieve some of the stress &
strain associated with this type of problem.
During teenage years the body undergoes an enormous
amount of change and many musculo-skeletal
conditions such as osteochondrosis, chondromalacia
patellae, sports injuries, osgood schlatters and
many other mechanical conditions can occur.
Osteopaths are trained to diagnose, offer advice on
treatment options, referral, activity and exercise
for many of these conditions. It is worth calling
the clinic to discuss this before attending if you
are not sure. Other problems can be caused by
sporting or recreational activities.
Both Brian and Louise have undergone undergraduate &
post graduate training in cranial osteopathy that
includes paediatric osteopathy. |
